A long overdue entry, written Oct 20th

There is no wind this afternoon so the leaves falling aren’t being blown down, they’re not dancing across the road, sidewalk or lawns, they are just gently falling. The sun is warm, a beautiful autumn day. I’m sitting on my front porch which isn’t where I should be, I should be at the nursery. However, I have been taking some time off from a full work day because of some surgery that will help me back to full speed this coming spring. It’s not serious surgery but it has crippled my ability to lift and that is what we do every day at the nursery.  I always try to find the silver lining in every cloud, mine is the wonderful co-workers that always get the job done, are always there to help me. Nothing can replace my family and these wonderful people are my second family and I love them all.

We have had a great year; made many friends, connected with many old friends and helped many new gardeners with plant choices. It’s who we are and what we do to connect people to their gardens.

So as the leaves gently fall, the sun slivers in from the south and I sit on my porch, it gives me pause. I have lived in this house for 45 years and have never been sitting on my porch mid-week, I’ve always been at work. Well, it’s really not work it’s more like a life’s journey and I look forward to continuing that journey going forward.

Happy Halloween to you all
