Dancing Leaves
If you venture outside on a crisp autumn morning and there is a gentle breeze
You’ll hear the sound of dancing leaves
The dancing leaves have fallen from the Mother Maple after a long summer in the sun
They have helped their Mom to store up energy for when the warmth of summer’s gone
In the autumn with cold approaching the summer leaves get restless
Mother Maple tell them it’s time to leave and join with the others
So, the leaves fall to the ground, a little nervous, a little scared
But the winds of autumn pick them up and send them into the air
The leaves released are given freedom in the autumn winds
they mix and meet and start to dance under the watchful eye of their mother’s
They dance together where wind moves them, their dance is like no other
The winds are four sisters; north and south, east and west
and when one wind gets tired, another blows to change the dance.
But leaves don’t care which way they blow as long as they can dance
With other leaves from other trees that they have met by chance.
Some leaves stay with their mother, still green and on the tree
They’re watching all the dancing leaves and wondering, why not me
Soon Mom will let them leave to go to dance with all their friends
So she can take a nap and start next spring all over again
